Bluefins Sushi and Sake Bar in Falmouth opened in March 2020; three days later much of the state was shut down to combat the spread of COVID-19.
Three years later, diners have named Bluefins the best place on the Upper Cape for sushi. When you learn a bit about owner Andy Baler, it’s easy to see how his restaurant earned such a loyal following so quickly.
Mr. Baler has been working within the Cape’s fisheries community since 1986. He started in shellfish propagation and other conservation work, and in 1989 began working in the tuna fishery and later joined the board of the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association, now the Fishermen’s Alliance. He also founded Nantucket Fish Company and sent local fish up and down the East Coast.
Creating a sushi restaurant that puts fresh local fish front and center was a logical next step—first in Chatham, then Falmouth.
Bluefins aims to craft sushi and tempura dishes that both celebrate and showcase seafood in classically inspired Japanese methods and at the same time honoring traditional New England seafood cuisine. For sushi lovers, the menu includes a wide selection of nigiri, sashimi and cooked and raw rolls. The team also features a full menu for all those non-sushi customers.
“Short visit to the area and this restaurant really surprised us,” a recent visitor wrote. “We come from the Pacific Northwest, so we are spoiled with great sushi and sushi rolls. I had the Angry Dragon and it was very good. Try the matcha mochi! I recommend this place!”
Bluefins offers dine-in and take-out options, but you’ll want to stick around and enjoy the atmosphere at this great Main Street location.
