In 1911, tired of returning from hunting trips with damp feet, Leon Leonwood Bean decided to create a boot with a rubber bottom and leather upper. The following year Mr. Bean sold 100 of the boots and so began the story of LL Bean. It was not an immediate success as 90 of the first 100 were returned because the uppers and rubber bottom separated, but it did not daunt LL Bean who kept at it. Famous products followed such as the iconic field coat and 110 years later this company headquartered in Freeport, Maine, is still going strong.
In 2017, with no small amount of fanfare, LL Bean opened its Mashpee location and had become a popular place for clothing and gear. Its famous boot, the one that started it all, is still for sale and still the popular boot among outdoor adventurers. It isn’t just the outdoors LL Bean will prepare you for; casual wear to dress wear can also be found inside, with all the quality behind the name.
