Locals and visitors are fortunate that so many great entertainment spaces are located across Cape Cod. Since 1951, the granddaddy of concert venues on the Cape has been the Melody Tent, which has hosted the likes of Ginger Rogers to Kenny Rogers, Benny Goodman to Brandi Carlile and Dave Brubeck to Dave Chappelle.

The Melody Tent and its sister venue in Cohasset, the Music Circus, are the only two continuously operated tent theaters in the United States. The seasonal venues run May through September. Both are owned and operated by the South Shore Playhouse Associates, a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting the arts, cultural and educational organizations throughout the communities of the South Shore and Cape Cod.

Every one of the Melody Tent’s 2,300 seats offers a great view of the circular, rotating stage and an intimate entertainment experience. Add to that free parking and an on-site snack and drink bar, and guests are ready for a fun night on the town.

The 2023 summer lineup included a long list of Melody Tent favorites, such as Trombone Shorty, Pink Martini, Melissa Etheridge and Get the Led Out, a Led Zeppelin cover band. Newcomers this season included Train and comedian Ilana Glazer from “Broad City.”

Recent reviewers have been particularly impressed with the venue’s intimate size (“Not a bad seat in the house!”) and its on-site free parking.
